Organizations
Angling Productions and Northeast Angling recognize the following organizations as being vital to our fishing community. The dedicated folks in these organizations work hard to protect our marine resources. Click on the name of the organization to learn more. The Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) is the only national organization that can legally lobby full time on behalf of saltwater anglers. The RFA has been successfully organizing America's saltwater anglers, conservationists, fishing clubs, marine manufacturers and retailers into a national grass roots lobbying organization. Its goal is to safeguard the rights of those saltwater anglers, protect jobs in the marine boat and tackle industries, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our nation's saltwater fisheries. The NY Sportfishing Federation (NYSF) is a not-for-profit organization that is recognized nationally and locally at all levels of government. It is dedicated to preserving the marine habitat and maintaining the bio-diversity of our marine resources. The NY Fishing Tackle Trade Association was created to voice the concerns of the recreational fishing industry and to promote the sport which supports that industry.  It was instrumental in the creation of the Sportfishing Education Center located at Cedar Beach on Long Island.  It is also the creator and steward of numerous community oriented projects and activities.  Its leadership and members have a significant voice on various fishery councils and advisory boards.
   
The Long Island Beach Buggy Association has been protecting Long Island beaches and the public's access to those beaches since its inception.  It is involved in beach cleanups, habitat enhancement, loaner and scholarship programs, and has even produced an educational beach driving video.  It also has representatives on several prominent marine/fishing trade organizations and fishery management boards.
   
The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association represents over 5,500 anglers and 27 affiliated clubs in Rhode Island. Their members serve on all regional fisheries councils, and are heavily involved in marine conservation programs in Rhode Island.  RISAA has accepted a leadership role in order to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and future of recreational angling.
   
The National Striped Bas Association is committed to protecting, preserving, and promoting the striped bass fisheries wherever they are found.  They are involved in fellowship efforts with clubs and organizations, conservation (especially in the area of catch and release), protection through legislation, competition (through the televised NSBA tournament series), and much more.  They also publish Striped Bass Magazine.
   
The Fishermen's Conservation Association (FCA), is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the "Conservation Triad": Access, Habitat, and Fisheries Management. Financial support of FCA directly benefits New York, New Jersey and Connecticut's marine waters. The association's immediate priorities include fighting the proposed dumping of toxic waste in Jamaica Bay, illegal poaching, beach access and a variety of fisheries related issues.
   
Block Island Maritime Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to sailing and marine science education for all ages. They offer maritime and marine science classes, outdoor aquariums and touch tanks for children, and sailboat rentals and captained fishing charters, dockage and on-site restaurant and catering facilities. They are also involved in oyster farming and lobstering.  The Block Island Maritime Institute is located at Smuggler's Cove on Ocean Avenue in New Harbor on Block Island, RI.
   
The Massachusetts Striped Bass Association is the biggest and oldest saltwater fishing club in New England open to the public, founded in 1950.  The objectives of this Association are; to promote and encourage interest in salt water sport fishing: to provide opportunities for those interested in salt water sport fishing to gather for entertainment and good fellowship; to uphold sound conservation practices and laws and to see that these laws are carried out by its members; to further good sportsmanship and to disseminate information concerning saltwater sport fishing both to Association members and others.
   
The Hi-Mar Striper club is the premiere Striped bass club in New Jersey. The club is made of the areas best charter captains, family recreational fisherman, and individuals who want to make a difference in preserving our precious fishery for generations to come.  Throughout its almost forty years of existence, various Hi-Mar members were the innovators of several effective bass catching techniques with plugs and spoons. Members of the club are also pioneers in developing such effective techniques as worming for bass, chunking Flynn's Knoll, light tackle angling for bass and nighttime plug trolling in the Sandy Hook Rips.
   
The Connecticut Surfcasters Association (CSA) is a not-for-profit organization established for the promotion, protection and preservation of the surfcasting tradition in its many forms along our coasts. It does this by keeping members informed of the activities of the state and local governments regarding their fisheries. It sponsors annual beach clean-ups in the Madison, CT and Westerly, RI areas.  The CSA also promotes surfcasting by educating its members.  Visit the site for a great collection of tips, links , surf info and much more.   This organization provides a great home for all those who ply the surf in Connecticut waters.
   
The FishAmerica Foundation is the conservation and research arm of the American Sportfishing Association. This organization has invested more than $6 million into grassroots fisheries restoration and enhancement projects in all 50 states and Canada in the past 20 years. In the last three years alone, FishAmerica's projects have raised and released 13 million fish, restored more than 310 miles of shoreline, and restored 6,000 acres of wetlands.
   
The 21 year old Riverfront Recapture organization was instrumental in the revitalization of the Connecticut riverfront parks and facilities in the Hartford area.  This organization manages the riverfront parks in both Hartford and the town of East Hartford, CT.  The Riverfront project is a catalyst for economic development that is bringing dramatic changes to this critical waterfront resource:  A resource that now supports an abundance of fish and bird life.
   

ALS

The American Littoral Society (ALS) hosts an excellent tagging program. It is the largest voluntary tagging program in the nation. The program focuses on saltwater gamefish. Specifically, its program provides invaluable data on the movement and habits of striped bass in the northeast.
