Samantha Marino, first
mate on American Sport Fishing Charters joins Captains Andy LoCascio and
Rich Tenreiro to compete in the Oyster Bay Bluefish Tournament. The
trio ranges throughout the western sound from Little Neck Bay to
Huntington in search of the "right" fish. They catch countless big
fish on live bunker, chunks, and on surface plugs. This show is a
"must see" for the competitive inshore angler! If you have questions about any of the
equipment used during the show, please contact us
or send us a message.

The spinning rod and reel combo seen on the
show featured a
Shimano
Spheros 5000 reel on a
6'6" Trevala rod rated for 50100lb braided/fused line (model
TVS66MH).
The
conventional rod and reel combo we recommend features a
Shimano
Torium
30 reel on a
Tallus conventional rod (model
TLC-70MHA). This is a
very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for nearly all northeast
live lining and chunking applications.
The spinning reel was loaded with
30lb
Berkley
Fireline which is attached to a 3ft length of
50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a
#10 Mustad
Rolling Swivel. The surface plugs used were 6" (1 3/8oz)
Yo-Zuri
Surface Cruiser plugs. They are easy to work, have tremendous
casting distance, and draw dramatic strikes from the fish.
The conventional reel was loaded with
50lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to 16in 130lb wire leader using a
Mustad rolling swivel. The rig is completed with a
9/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook. This is an incredibly
sharp hook and is the most effective hook when using large live baits,
whole dead baits, or chunk baits |

The cast nets seen on this show were supplied by Charlie K of
East Coast Nets. These nets are
all hand made and are specifically designed for bunker (menhaden) netting in
the region. They are the first choice of charter captains from Virginia
through Massachusetts. Charlie not only makes a great net, but he can
teach you how to throw it! |
 |
|
| The raging currents and big fish made the net choice especially
critical. A
Frabill
Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that
none of the fish were lost at boat-side. This is a a great net that stores easily and all
you have to do is slide, lock and
load and it is ready to go! |
